Yesterday Ambassador Grindlay accompanied local partner Leb Relief as it distributed 🇦🇺 blankets, tarps and supplies to damaged homes in Achrafieh. These were flown in on recent Royal Australian Air Force humanitarian flights.
Local resident Elie’s 86 year old mother was thrown from her bed by the force of the explosion and broke her hip – he’s pictured in front of his apartment’s newly-replaced windows. Souraya was sitting outside on her balcony when the blast struck. Repairs have already been been carried out on her kitchen, which she said was the heart of her home.
Ambassador Grindlay was deeply moved by how warmly the group was welcomed by these and other residents, despite everything they had lost and suffered.
